since i've ben blowing wads of cash on threadless tee's thought i'd try to recoup some back by contributing so here's my first threadless tshirt design attempt. would be great if you guys could follow the link below and score it to help contribute to the save-my-creditcards fund.

the doodlepong project has grown and i almost feel like a proud father looking at it mature, take shape, expand. soon it will be too big for me and too proud to be seen with me and it will start experimenting with drugs and leave me for some cheap tramp. till then, i'm delighted at its progress. what's been most encouraging are the positive responses from the who's who in the illustration/design universe who've been really nice stand-up guys and gals. and to be able to doodle jam with them is just schoolgirlgushingly awesome. the doodlepongers include:

and of course, in the inclusive spirit of doodling, there are other contributors who may not be as popular and whose contributions i value just as much. after all, doodling is supposed to be idling fun. i keep getting responses from doodlers who are too embarrassed to contribute to the wanton doodles site cos they don't think their doodles are good enough. heck, if you can put ink on paper, you're good enough. i mean c'mon, have you seen pollock's work? the man pours paint on the floor and calls it the "drip" technique. didnt anyone since the 1930's sit up and say "hey waitaminute...". anyway, here's a glimpse of the doodlepong, oodles of noodle, so far...

been pretty tied up with work and...drum roll...wantondoodles.com ver2! figured its abt time cos the current site is a bit too cumbersome to upload doodles so i'm trying out a new platform. new and improved site will include all those many doodles that have been sent in by you guys and, rest assured, not forgotten. so keep sendin in your doodles and don't forget your name and location so that you can easily search for your picasso's. watch for it...

apologies to all those who contributed doodles but have yet to see their masterpieces grace the wanton doodles site. it's not cos i dont think they're good enough. heck, i think they're all amazing. just that i've been pretty swamped with my day job that i barely have time to do much else. rest assured, i will do level best to update the site soon. in the meantime, i appreciate the many words of encouragement and wonderful stuff you've said abt the site as well as the criticisms (curling up in a foetal position and weeping like a baby helps). do keep giving me your honest feedback and keep on sending them doodles. very excited to show the world doodles from all over the world - canada, uk, france, us, japan, poland to name a few. last count i have in excess of 200 doodles yet to be posted. bandwidth balls to the wall! also for those who are keen on joining doodle pong, do keep me posted and many thanks for thoe who already have.

started this new project called "doodle pong". it's like ping pong minus the sweat. trade in the bats for pens and table for paper and the doodle pong session was on like donkey kong. even got doodlers from around the world to contribute and right now it's somewhere in the states waiting to be "ponged" back to me before i can "ping" it to someone else. here's how the doodle pong entitled "oodles of noodle" took shape...

since i was on a roll, figured i'd write to mr tokidoki himself, simone legno. for the uninitiated, tokidoki is the wonderfully kawaii characters like sabochan, adios, SANdy, bastardino. yes that same one that has all the girls crazy for lesportsac bags. mind you, this italian talent is busy jetsetting across the globe doing signings, collaborations, store openings, etc. i was stoked when he replied saying he likes the wantondoodles site and more so when he actually took time out from his busy schedule to submit doodles and gave it that singaporean flavour when i told him where i'm from. it's very comforting to know someone who hasnt let fame get the better of them. almost makes me wanna buy more lesportsac bags. since i cant quite carry 'em off, did the next best thing. bought the new adios and ciao ciao vinyls. check out super nice guy simone's doodles at www.wantondoodles.com/doodles_tokidoki.htm and if you're one of the rare few still stuck under a rock and clueless about tokidoki, check out simone's delicious works at www.tokidoki.it

fort canning art market was fun. fort canning art market dj's choice of 80's music that everyone cares to forget, not so much. in any case, it was great to see so many people taking part in our doodle wall. we had 129 post-it contributions which almost begs for 3M sponsorship. ok, more like we're begging for 3M sponsorship. amongst the sea of shameless abuse of office supplies, the doodle below takes the cake for me. sadly, the doodler didnt sign off so i cant credit him/her. also encouraging were the requests for my doodles. will consider putting up more such illustrations in the wanton doodles site or even accepting request made to do murals. speaking of which, much thanks to pamm, makisquarepatch and whimsical garden for adding on to the messymahjongminimural.

the doodles to be made into t-shirts are "party of one" and "therapy". we went through a painstaking process of looking at t-shirt quality, sizes and cut or measurements. after much consultation with the god of apparel and of course with the ample sacrifice of virgin tees, we decided to have our t-shirts custom cut and made. this is to specially cater for just the right girls t-shirt cut. no, not because girls are generally fussy (cough). it's cos we found out girls prefer the baby-tee flattering-cut-meets-casual-relax look. the silk screens have already been fabricated and we should be seeing our first set of t-shirts by the end of the week. exciting times these.

things are moving along nicely. the doodling on post-it idea caught on well. apparently there are a lot of boring meetings out there and this would probably now correlate to the high usage of post-it pads. anyway, i myself have gone post-it crazy. have now "upgraded" to the bigger pads with lines. simply love the strong colours. yes, shamelessly plugging for 3M. endorsement anyone?

been a while. and for a very good reason. been busy with more doodling - of sorts. started when trusty ol' friend was talking abt my drawings one of them evenings between watching soccer and fragging each other on xbox's ghost recon...

him: you draw right?

me: uhm. ya. nice of you to notice. after all, you've only known me for over two decades.

him: and you draw everywhere and everytime. heck even your walls are defaced.

me: so you're saying i'm like a 3 yr-old with crayons? my doodles are more kindergarten school standard alright.

him: no, i'm saying wouldn't it be cool to have your art more mobile?

me: sure, but it would be kinda difficult to lug around pieces of my home.

him: on tshirts la.

me: wow, einstein. that's fresh. lets see. isn't that like done by only every other person on the planet? heck, every other person i talk to these days know of at least two other people and a pet terrapin who are designing their own t shirts.

him: most of the tshirts out there centres around cool, complex and visually appealing graphics unlike yours.

me: ladies and gentlemen, best sales pitch right there.

him: doodles are more accessible, everyone does it so everyone can relate. plus the designs are more humour-centric. there's your competitive edge right there. if anything, wouldn't it be cool to see people wear your creation?

me: go on, my ego's listening.

him: so all i'm saying lets make your doodles more accessible. after all, you're already doodling in meetings and such. so its no skin off your back. you just keep that pencil sharpened and i will take care of everything else.

me: so you're asking me to sell-out? you do know my soul's already in a jar somewhere in the devil's pantry rt?

him: who do you think came up with this hair-brain idea in the first place?
